Photo, Slide and Negative Scanning
We can scan and digitize your photo prints, 35mm slides, negatives and APS Advantix film to CD-ROM or DVD-ROM as a series of high resolution digital image files such as jpeg's or TIFF's.
Scanning of the photos is performed with a dedicated professional photo scanner.

The Photo, Slide and Negative Scanning Process
Each photograph, slide transparency or negative film is carefully and individually blow dusted prior to being scanned.
We then perform a pre-scan. This allows us to preview how the resulting photo scan will appear, and enable us to enhance and edit the scanned image if required, by making any colour, brightness or contrast adjustments, as well as cropping to delete untidy edges.
Once we are happy with the result, we scan the photo, slide or negative. Dust and scratch removal technologies including Digital Ice may be employed when scanning if required. We then check and review the final resulting scan. We find it is not uncommon that our scans look even better than the original photo.
After scanning all the photos, the images are then copied onto and supplied on CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, Memory card or stick.
If the photos, slides or negatives are numbered, we will scan them in that order.
Unless otherwise instructed, the scanned photo image files will be presented in seperate labelled folders that relate to your indivdual boxes or envelopes of prints, slides or negatives.

Photo Scan Resolutions
We will scan your photographs, slides, transparencies and negatives at your specified resolution, or you can advise us of your intended application for the scanned images, and we will scan at a suitable resolution.
As a general rule, we suggest scanning photos at the following resolutions which are usually adequate for viewing, editing and printing out the scanned images -

Scanning Photographic Prints = 300dpi to 600dpi
Scanning Photo Slides = 800dpi to 1200dpi
Scanning Photo Negatives = 800dpi to 1200dpi
Scanning Medium / Large Format
Negatives = 300dpi to 600dpi

If the photos are to be scanned for publishing on a website, or viewing on a digital photo frame, a lower resolution may be required.
If the scanned photos are intended for enlargements or detailed editing, a higher resolution may be required.
When scanning at a higher resolution, the number of pixels of the data increases and the scanned image becomes fine in texture.
However, increasing the resolution causes the data size, and accordingly the required storage space, to increase.
We can supply the same scanned images at varying resolutions for differant applications if required.

Once the photographs are scanned, you can -
* View the scanned photos on a computer individually or as a photo slide show.
* View the photos on a digital photo frame individually or as a photo slide show.
* Edit, manipulate and enhance the images with
digital photo image editing software.
* Email the photo images to friends and family.
* Publish the photos on a website.
* Print out and make new prints of
old photos and negatives.
* Easily copy and distribute the scanned photos
to friends and family
* The scanned photos can then also be viewed
on a TV, individually or as a photo slide show,
using a DVD player that supports jpeg's / photo CD's.

Scan Photos for Digital Photo Frames
These increasingly popular items offer a solution to displaying and sharing your scanned photos in one frame. The photo frame receives the images via a USB stick or memory card, which we can supply, ready loaded with the scanned images and configured for your digital photo frame.
You just need to let us know the make and model of the digital photo frame you will be using.

DVD-Video Photo Slide Show
In addition to scanning, we can also create a DVD Slide Show from your photograph, slide and negative film scans, complete with transitions and option of including titles and music. The DVD can run up to approx. two hours, and can be viewed on your TV with a DVD player. The DVD features a menu that displays an attractive menu with main title, plus selection or 'play' buttons, one for each slideshow.

If you had already numbered and supplied your photos in the order you wanted them scanned, we can accordingly feature them in the same order on the DVD. Alternatively, you can view and check your scans first, before advising us of the order you would like the images to appear on the DVD slide show.
