Introduction
Chances are, you have about a half a dozen boxes filled with old vinyl 33 record albums, 45 singles, 78's, cassettes, and open reels of tape...When is the last time you heard one of your favourites?
Do you still own a tape player or turntable?

We can transfer your tapes and records to audio CD or CD-ROM for you to preserve and enjoy,
using only top brand, high quality CD-R discs.

We can also produce copies of the CD on CD or compact cassette.

We do not use automated equipment, as we believe it is crucial to continually monitor the transfer and make necessary adjustments as required.

Your tape / record captured and preserved on CD
Your tapes / records are recorded directly to CD without any alteration to the sound.
Your tape or record will be recorded onto the CD with one of three track options -

(1) Two selectable tracks, one for each side of the tape / record. This is the de-fault setting, or you can request-

(2) Selectable tracks at increments of 1, 3 or 5 minutes (particularly useful for non music recordings).

(3) Seperate selectable tracks for each music track / non musical passage on the tape / record.
We can only offer this third option within the basic transfer price for tapes / records
with clearly distinguishable seperate tracks.

Otherwise, as an additional service, we can create a CD with selectable tracks to your
instruction once you have listened to the CD that has been created as per option 1.
No need to return the CD, you just need to advise the counter readings
at the points you need a new track to start.

CD-ROM
We can also supply the transfers as audio files such as WAV or MP3 on CD-ROM.
Ideal for your ipod / mp3 player.

Audio Cleaning
We can sometimes improve the sound quality and reduce background noise with special audio cleaning software.
This process can be particularly effective at reducing hiss on tapes, and crackles, pops and static on records.

TAPES.....

open reel to reel
We use two and four track professional Revox and Teac studio machines to transfer your tapes.
Repairs to tapes will be made during the transfer as required.
The tapes are monitored as they are transferred, and any long blank sections will be edited out.
You are only charged for the recorded time.

The first reel to reel tape recorders were introduced into the UK in the late forties.
Most open reel recordings are on 1/4" tape and recorded in one of the following forms -

Speed - 15, 7.5, 3.75, or 1.875 IPS (inches per second)

Reel size - 10.5" (2500ft), 8.25" (1800ft), 7" (1200ft), 5" (600ft) or 3".

For your guidance, below are the approximate running times (one pass) of the various spool sizes -

Length Spool Diameter 15 ips
(38 cm)
7.5 ips
(19 cm)
3.75 ips
(9.5 cm)
1.875 ips
(4.8 cm)
600 ft 5" 8 min 16 min 32 min 64 min
1200 ft 7" 16 min 32 min 64 min 128 min
1800 ft 8.25" 24 min 48 min 96 min 192 min
2500 ft 10.5" 33 min 66 min 132 min 264 min

Tracks - Originally machines and tapes were full track, recording across the full width of the tape.
Then half track allowing two separate mono recordings on each side of a tape, or one single stereo recording.
Finally came quarter track recording which gave four separate mono recordings on a tape,
or two seperate stereo recordings.
Tapes are not compatible between these machines.

Playback standards - We can playback and transfer tapes at NAB, IEC and CCIR standards.

Please advise if you are aware what form your tapes were recorded in.

compact cassettes
Introduced by Philips in 1963. Produced in various lengths to a maximum of 2 hours (1 hour each side of a C120 cassette).

We offer discounted rates for transferring collections of audio cassettes.

Please advise if you are aware of any recording process that was used i.e. Dolby etc.

micro cassettes
Commonly used in dictation machines, we can also transfer these tapes to CD.

tape repairs
We can usually carry out a temporary repair to tapes in order to transfer them to CD.

We use modern transcription decks to transfer your record(s). The records are carefully cleaned prior to transfer.
The transfer is continually monitored and sound level adjustments made as necessary.
We can transfer entire records, or selected tracks.
